Year-round volunteer roles are open to individuals who identify as female, male, trans, and gender non-conforming.

A special note to our male-identified allies: Girls Rock!Des Moines is primarily led by and for women, girls & non-binary folx. We also value diversity, inclusion, and sensitivity towards all individuals, regardless of gender identity or expression. Our organization welcomes the support of male-identified folks, and encourages the understanding of leadership by women & marginalized identities.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS & COMMITTEES:

The Board of Directors is an elected group of individuals that represents the members of GRDSM. This governing body meets once a month to set policies, strategic plans, fundraise and support our program. We are actively recruiting for a variety of specified positions, and we’re always happy to accept new at-large board members.

Volunteering to join a Committee allows your voice to be heard at a foundational level. You will support our mission from the ground up. Our committees and are ever evolving and hard working. It is our duty to continue supporting all voices in our communities. Committees meet once a month outside of the regular board meeting.

Board and Committee Areas:

  • Marketing: social media, website, event promotions

  • Governance: bylaws, policies, documentation

  • Outreach: tabling, recruitment, communications

  • Fundraising: events, partnerships, donations

  • Programming: after-school, adult, summer programs, events

Photography & Video volunteers are welcome to join us in and out of all our programming. We are consistently updating our visual presence on social media. If you have a keen eye to catch magic moments, we would love to share your artistic talent with our communities!

LOAD IN & OUT CREW

Load In & Out Crew Responsibilities include loading in gear from storage and returning gear to storage before and after GR!DSM events. Volunteers must be able to lift 15-50lbs. No musical experience is required for this position, just a strong back! Cis-male support welcome

WORKSHOP FACILITATOR

Do you have an idea for an amazing and empowering workshop? Workshop Facilitators create and lead innovative workshops year-round. Some past workshops include: “How to rock on stage” / Ukulele workshop / Spoken Word workshop / Amps workshop / Songwriting workshop & “How to book a gig.” We are welcoming a new DJing workshop and History of Women in our Hip Hop culture. So the sky’s the limit. Let us know your ideas, we want our rockers to have access to everything magical!
