Songwriter’s Retreat

Registration opens Friday, February 23rd

Join us for a day-long retreat at GRDSM HQ, to learn about writing and performing original songs as a singer-songwriter. This is a daylong, daytime experience open to youth followed by a showcase.

Saturday, we will meet at Windsor Presbyterian Church and dive into our songwriting with workshops and guided composition time!

Sunday we will perform our showcase at Windsor Presbyterian Church.

GR!DSM has another performance opportunity for our community. We will be performing at Porchfest with an acoustic set. Only acoustic instruments will be provided and used for this gig. We will not have access to power!

CABCO is teaming up with Girls Rock! DSM, an incredible organization that has been empowering cis-girls & women, non-binary, and trans youth & adults through self-expression, creative agency, and mentoring in music & arts-based education, collaboration, performance, and production since 2013!

We are having an orientation from 4-6pm to talk about our year round programming offerings!  Our big thing we are focusing on is our Community Bands, but we will also have many of our private lesson instructors available to talk to and sign up for private lessons during this time!  We will be conducting some band interviews as well in order to place each musician in the band that fits for them.  We will have two weeks of band interviews, so if you are not ready this week, we will be doing them again next Thursday!

Project7 Design (P7) has partnered with a couple of their favorite neighbors, The Iowa Taproom and Molly's to work together and DO GOOD THINGS in support of Girls Rock! Des Moines.

We will be Rocking the Lot with performances from GR!DSM musicians as well as a few talented local pianists playing on one of Des Moines’ famous painted pianos provided by City Sounds! GR!DSM is a music program that empowers, encourages, and inspires cis-girls and gender-expansive folx across Greater Des Moines.

A $10 donation will get you an adorable sticker sheet and unlimited Lemonade provided by he Iowa Taproom OR a root beer float from the fine folks at the NEW Molly's Frozen.

A $20 donation gets you all that … PLUS $2 off of an appetizer at The Taproom OR a 4-pack of cupcakes from Molly’s Cupecakes!

P7 will also be selling shirts with their cute little lemon guy and donating the proceeds to GR!DSM.

Bring your lawn chairs and come Squeeze the Day – we’ll be rocking the lot from 1-4pm. Come for the entire time or just drop by for a bit!
